Solutions
Solution 1: Enable and Configure Clipboard History
- 1Enable clipboard history:
- 2Settings → System → Clipboard
- 3Toggle ON "Clipboard history"
- 4Test: copy something → press Win+V
- 5You should see the clipboard panel with history
- 6For cross-device sync:
- 7Toggle ON "Sync across your devices"
- 8Choose "Automatically sync text that I copy" or "Manual"
- 9Requires Microsoft account signed in on all devices
- 10Check: Settings → Accounts → ensure Microsoft account is connected
- 11Note: clipboard history only saves text and images <4MB
- 12Files, folders, and large images are NOT saved to history
Solution 2: Fix Clipboard Service
- 1The clipboard history service may be stopped:
- 2services.msc → find "Clipboard User Service" (cbdhsvc)
- 3It should be Running with Automatic (Delayed) start
- 4If stopped: right-click → Start
- 5If it won't start:
- 6CMD as Admin:
- 7sc config cbdhsvc start= auto
- 8net start cbdhsvc
- 9Also check "Connected Devices Platform Service" (CDPSvc)
- 10This is needed for clipboard sync
- 11Should be Automatic (Delayed Start)
- 12Restart PC if services were stopped
- 13Test clipboard history again with Win+V
Solution 3: Fix Group Policy and Reset Clipboard Data
- 1Check if Group Policy is blocking clipboard:
- 2gpedit.msc → Computer Configuration
- 3→ Admin Templates → System → OS Policies
- 4"Allow Clipboard History" → set to Enabled or Not Configured
- 5"Allow Clipboard synchronization across devices" → Enabled or Not Configured
- 6Run: gpupdate /force
- 7If clipboard data is corrupted:
- 8Settings → System → Clipboard → click "Clear" under Clear clipboard data
- 9This clears all history and pinned items
- 10Toggle clipboard history OFF → restart PC → toggle ON
- 11Check privacy settings:
- 12Settings → Privacy & security → General
- 13Also: Settings → System → Clipboard
- 14Uncheck "Clear clipboard data when I sign out" if you want persistence
