- 3Find "Allow search highlights" — set to "Not Configured" or "Enabled"
- 4For Windows Home: open regedit as Admin
- 5Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SearchSettings
- 6Find "IsDynamicSearchBoxEnabled" — set value to 1
- 7If the key doesn't exist: create a DWORD (32-bit) with that name and set to 1
- 8Restart Explorer or restart the computer
Solution 3: Reset Windows Search
- 1Open PowerShell as Administrator
- 2Stop the search service: Stop-Service WSearch
- 3Delete the search index: Remove-Item "$env:ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Windows.edb" -Force
- 4Restart the service: Start-Service WSearch
- 5The search index will rebuild (may take 15-30 minutes)
- 6Alternatively: Settings → Privacy & security → Searching Windows
- 7Click "Advanced Search Indexer Settings" → Advanced → Rebuild
- 8After rebuilding: click the search box and check for highlights
