Symptoms

You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:

Solutions

Solution 1: Disable All Adaptive Brightness Settings

  1. 1Go to Control Panel > Power Options
  2. 2Click "Change plan settings" > "Change advanced power settings"
  3. 3Expand Display > Enable adaptive brightness
  4. 4Set both "On battery" and "Plugged in" to Off
  5. 5Click Apply and OK
  6. 6Also: Settings > System > Display > turn off "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes"

Solution 2: Disable Intel Display Power Saving

  1. 1Open Intel Graphics Command Center (or Intel HD Graphics Control Panel)
  2. 2Go to System > Power
  3. 3Find "Display Power Savings" or "Panel Self-Refresh"
  4. 4Set to OFF or Disabled
  5. 5This stops Intel's aggressive brightness adjustments
  6. 6If using Intel UHD Graphics Panel: Display > Power > disable DPST

Solution 3: Disable AMD/NVIDIA Auto-Brightness

  1. 1AMD: Open AMD Software > Display > toggle off "Vari-Bright"
  2. 2NVIDIA: Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > Adjust desktop color settings
  3. 3Ensure "Use NVIDIA settings" is selected and no dynamic adjustments are on
  4. 4Also check: NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Power Management Mode
  5. 5Set to "Prefer maximum performance" to prevent power-saving brightness changes
