How to Fix Fix Windows Widgets Board Not Loading on Windows

Windows 11 Widgets board blank, not loading, or stuck on loading screen? Fix the Widgets panel with these troubleshooting steps.

Symptoms

You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:

  • Widgets board shows blank white or black screen
  • Widgets panel stuck on loading spinner indefinitely
  • Clicking Widgets button on taskbar does nothing
  • Individual widgets fail to display content
  • Widgets board opens but shows no news or weather
  • Widgets panel crashes immediately after opening

Common Causes

  • Microsoft account not signed in or session expired
  • Web Experience Pack outdated or corrupted
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime missing or broken
  • Widgets disabled via Group Policy or registry
  • Network connectivity issues blocking widget content
  • Corrupted widget cache data

Solutions

Solution 1: Reset Web Experience Pack

  1. 1Open PowerShell as Administrator
  2. 2Reset the Web Experience Pack:
  3. 3Get-AppxPackage *WebExperience* | Reset-AppxPackage
  4. 4If that fails, reinstall it:
  5. 5Get-AppxPackage *WebExperience* | Remove-AppxPackage
  6. 6Open Microsoft Store and search for "Windows Web Experience Pack"
  7. 7Install the package
  8. 8Restart PC and test Widgets

Solution 2: Repair Microsoft Edge WebView2

  1. 1Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps
  2. 2Search for "Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime"
  3. 3Click the three dots → Modify or Repair
  4. 4If not found, download from:
  5. 5https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/
  6. 6Install the Evergreen Bootstrapper
  7. 7Restart PC after installation

Solution 3: Re-enable Widgets via Registry

  1. 1Open Registry Editor as Administrator:
  2. 2Win+R → regedit → Enter
  3. 3Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Dsh
  4. 4If "AllowNewsAndInterests" exists, set it to 1
  5. 5If the key doesn't exist, Widgets should be enabled by default
  6. 6Also check: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
  7. 7Set "TaskbarDa" to 1 if it exists
  8. 8Restart Explorer or restart PC
