How to Fix Widgets Feed Not Refreshing or Showing Stale Content on Windows

  • Microsoft account sign-in expired for Widgets service

Solutions

Solution 1: Re-sign Into Widgets and Reset Cache

  1. 1Widgets requires a Microsoft account to refresh:
  2. 2Open Widgets panel (Win+W)
  3. 3Click your profile icon (top right)
  4. 4Sign out and sign back in with Microsoft account
  5. 5If already signed in: sign out → restart PC → sign in again
  6. 6Reset Widgets cache:
  7. 7Settings → Apps → Installed apps
  8. 8Search "Windows Web Experience Pack"
  9. 9⋯ → Advanced options → Reset
  10. 10Also try: ⋯ → Advanced options → Repair
  11. 11Restart PC and open Widgets panel

Solution 2: Update Web Experience Pack

  1. 1Widgets depend on the Web Experience Pack:
  2. 2Open Microsoft Store
  3. 3Search "Windows Web Experience Pack"
  4. 4Click Update if available
  5. 5If no update shown:
  6. 6PowerShell as Admin:
  7. 7Get-AppxPackage *WebExperience* | Select Name, Version
  8. 8To force reinstall:
  9. 9Get-AppxPackage *WebExperience* | Remove-AppxPackage
  10. 10Restart PC
  11. 11Open Microsoft Store → search and reinstall the pack
  12. 12Also ensure Edge WebView2 Runtime is updated:
  13. 13Check in Apps → Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime

Solution 3: Fix Network and Firewall Blocks

  1. 1Widgets need internet access to specific Microsoft endpoints:
  2. 2Test connectivity: ping assets.msn.com
  3. 3If blocked: check firewall and proxy settings
  4. 4Required domains for Widgets:
  5. 5*.msn.com
  6. 6*.bing.com
  7. 7*.microsoft.com
  8. 8*.live.com
  9. 9If using corporate proxy:
  10. 10Widgets may not work through proxy — check with IT
  11. 11Reset network if connectivity is fine but Widgets still stale:
  12. 12CMD as Admin:
  13. 13ipconfig /flushdns
  14. 14netsh winsock reset
  15. 15Restart PC and test Widgets again
