How to Fix Microsoft Store Not Working

Complete symptoms, causes, and step-by-step solutions

Symptoms

You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:

  • No notification popups appearing from any app
  • Notification Center shows no recent notifications
  • App-specific notifications missing (email, chat)
  • Notification sounds play but no visual popup
  • Banner notifications disabled for all apps
  • Focus Assist blocking all notifications unexpectedly

Common Causes

  • Do Not Disturb / Focus Assist enabled
  • App-specific notification permissions denied
  • Notification action center disabled
  • Battery saver suppressing notifications
  • Full-screen mode blocking notifications
  • Windows Push Notification service not running

Solutions

Solution 1: Check Focus Assist / Do Not Disturb

  1. 1Click the clock area in taskbar > check if Focus Assist is ON
  2. 2Or: Settings > System > Focus assist (Win10) / Focus (Win11)
  3. 3Set to "Off" to allow all notifications
  4. 4Check "Automatic rules" — Focus Assist may auto-enable during gaming, duplicating displays, etc.
  5. 5Turn off automatic rules you don't need
  6. 6Also check: Quick Settings > Do Not Disturb toggle

Solution 2: Enable App Notifications

  1. 1Go to Settings > System > Notifications
  2. 2Ensure "Notifications" toggle is ON at the top
  3. 3Scroll down to see per-app notification settings
  4. 4Click each important app and ensure notifications are enabled
  5. 5Enable: "Show notification banners"
  6. 6Enable: "Show notifications in notification center"

Solution 3: Fix Notification Service

  1. 1Press Windows + R, type services.msc
  2. 2Find "Windows Push Notifications User Service"
  3. 3Right-click > Restart
  4. 4Also restart "Windows Push Notifications System Service"
  5. 5Set both to Startup type: Automatic
  6. 6If still broken: re-register notifications via PowerShell (Admin):
