Solutions

Solution 1: Run System Restore from Safe Mode

  1. 1Hold Shift and click Restart
  2. 2Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore
  3. 3Or: boot into Safe Mode (Shift + Restart > Startup Settings > 4)
  4. 4Open System Restore from Safe Mode
  5. 5Select a restore point and try again
  6. 6Safe Mode prevents third-party software from interfering

Solution 2: Fix Volume Shadow Copy Service

  1. 1Press Windows + R, type services.msc
  2. 2Find "Volume Shadow Copy" service
  3. 3Set Startup type to "Automatic"
  4. 4Click Start if it's stopped
  5. 5Also check "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider"
  6. 6Restart and try System Restore again

Solution 3: Enable System Protection and Create New Point

  1. 1Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl
  2. 2Go to System Protection tab
  3. 3Select your C: drive and click Configure
  4. 4Select "Turn on system protection"
  5. 5Set Max Usage to 5-10% of the drive
  6. 6Click Apply, then Create to make a new restore point
