Solutions
Solution 1: Sign In with Microsoft Account
- 1Widgets require a Microsoft account — local accounts won't work:
- 2Settings → Accounts → Your info
- 3If it says "Local account": click "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead"
- 4Sign in with your Microsoft account (or create one)
- 5After signing in: open Widgets (Win+W) and wait 30 seconds for content to load
- 6If already signed in: try signing out and back in
- 7Check: Settings → Accounts → Email & accounts → make sure your Microsoft account is listed
Solution 2: Update Web Experience Pack
- 1Widgets are powered by the "Windows Web Experience Pack":
- 2Open Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates
- 3Look for "Windows Web Experience Pack" in the update list
- 4If it's not updating: search for it in the Store and click Update
- 5Also update: "Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime" (required dependency)
- 6After updating both: restart the PC
- 7Open Widgets (Win+W) and test
Solution 3: Reset Widgets
- 1Kill the Widgets process and restart it:
- 2Task Manager → find "Widgets" or "Windows Widgets" → End task
- 3Wait 5 seconds → open Widgets again (Win+W)
- 4If still broken: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → search "Web Experience"
- 5Click three dots → Advanced options → Repair
- 6If Repair doesn't help: click Reset
- 7Nuclear option: uninstall and reinstall Web Experience Pack from Microsoft Store
Solution 4: Enable Widgets on Taskbar
- 1If the Widgets button is missing from the taskbar:
- 2Right-click taskbar → Taskbar settings
- 3Toggle "Widgets" to ON
- 4If the toggle is greyed out: Group Policy may be blocking it
- 5gpedit.msc → Computer Config → Admin Templates → Windows Components → Widgets
- 6"Allow Widgets" → set to Enabled or Not Configured
- 7After policy change: gpupdate /force → restart
