How to Fix No Internet Connection

Complete symptoms, causes, and step-by-step solutions

Symptoms

You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:

  • Quick Assist stuck at "Connecting" and never proceeds
  • Helper sends code but recipient gets "Session could not be established"
  • Quick Assist shows "Something went wrong" error
  • Remote Assistance invitation expires or can't be accepted
  • "Your IT admin has disabled Quick Assist" message
  • Screen sharing works but remote control is blocked
  • Quick Assist connection drops after a few minutes

Common Causes

  • Quick Assist app outdated or corrupted
  • Firewall blocking the remote assistance connection
  • Remote Assistance disabled in System Properties or Group Policy
  • Microsoft account authentication failure
  • NAT or router blocking the peer-to-peer connection
  • Antivirus blocking screen sharing or remote input
  • Network proxy preventing the relay connection

Solutions

Solution 1: Update Quick Assist

  1. 1Quick Assist is now a Microsoft Store app (Win 11):
  2. 2Open Microsoft Store → search "Quick Assist" → Update (if available)
  3. 3If not installed: search and install it from the Store
  4. 4On Windows 10: Quick Assist is built-in — check for Windows Updates
  5. 5After updating: both helper and recipient should use the latest version
  6. 6Open Quick Assist: search "Quick Assist" in Start menu
  7. 7Helper: click "Help someone" → sign in with Microsoft account → share the code

Solution 2: Enable Remote Assistance

  1. 1Right-click This PC → Properties → Remote settings (or Advanced system settings → Remote tab)
  2. 2Check "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer"
  3. 3Click OK → Apply
  4. 4If the checkbox is greyed out: it's controlled by Group Policy
  5. 5gpedit.msc → Computer Configuration → Admin Templates → System → Remote Assistance
  6. 6"Configure Offer Remote Assistance" → Enabled
  7. 7"Configure Solicited Remote Assistance" → Enabled

Solution 3: Fix Firewall Blocking

  1. 1Quick Assist needs specific firewall rules:
  2. 2Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → Firewall & network protection
  3. 3Click "Allow an app through firewall"
  4. 4Find "Remote Assistance" and "Quick Assist" in the list
  5. 5Check both Private and Public boxes
  6. 6If not listed: click "Allow another app" → browse to:
  7. 7C:\Windows\System32\msra.exe (Remote Assistance)
  8. 8Also check that your router isn't blocking outbound connections on ports 443 and 12350

Solution 4: Reset Quick Assist App

  1. 1Settings → Apps → Installed apps → search "Quick Assist"
  2. 2Click three dots → Advanced options
  3. 3Click "Repair" first — this fixes the app without clearing data
  4. 4If still broken: click "Reset" → this clears all app data
  5. 5If neither works: uninstall and reinstall from Microsoft Store
  6. 6Alternative: use the legacy Remote Assistance instead:
  7. 7Win+R → msra → "Invite someone you trust to help you"
