Solutions
Solution 1: Update Quick Assist
- 1Quick Assist is now a Microsoft Store app (Win 11):
- 2Open Microsoft Store → search "Quick Assist" → Update (if available)
- 3If not installed: search and install it from the Store
- 4On Windows 10: Quick Assist is built-in — check for Windows Updates
- 5After updating: both helper and recipient should use the latest version
- 6Open Quick Assist: search "Quick Assist" in Start menu
- 7Helper: click "Help someone" → sign in with Microsoft account → share the code
Solution 2: Enable Remote Assistance
- 1Right-click This PC → Properties → Remote settings (or Advanced system settings → Remote tab)
- 2Check "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer"
- 3Click OK → Apply
- 4If the checkbox is greyed out: it's controlled by Group Policy
- 5gpedit.msc → Computer Configuration → Admin Templates → System → Remote Assistance
- 6"Configure Offer Remote Assistance" → Enabled
- 7"Configure Solicited Remote Assistance" → Enabled
Solution 3: Fix Firewall Blocking
- 1Quick Assist needs specific firewall rules:
- 2Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → Firewall & network protection
- 3Click "Allow an app through firewall"
- 4Find "Remote Assistance" and "Quick Assist" in the list
- 5Check both Private and Public boxes
- 6If not listed: click "Allow another app" → browse to:
- 7C:\Windows\System32\msra.exe (Remote Assistance)
- 8Also check that your router isn't blocking outbound connections on ports 443 and 12350
Solution 4: Reset Quick Assist App
- 1Settings → Apps → Installed apps → search "Quick Assist"
- 2Click three dots → Advanced options
- 3Click "Repair" first — this fixes the app without clearing data
- 4If still broken: click "Reset" → this clears all app data
- 5If neither works: uninstall and reinstall from Microsoft Store
- 6Alternative: use the legacy Remote Assistance instead:
- 7Win+R → msra → "Invite someone you trust to help you"
