  • Network troubleshooter says "The default gateway is not available"
  • WiFi shows connected but no internet access periodically

  • Router DHCP lease conflict or IP address collision
  • Third-party antivirus/firewall interfering with network stack
  • WiFi adapter switching between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands

Solutions

Solution 1: Disable Network Adapter Power Management

  1. 1This is the #1 fix for this error:
  2. 2Device Manager → Network adapters → your WiFi/Ethernet adapter
  3. 3Right-click → Properties → Power Management tab
  4. 4UNCHECK "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
  5. 5Click OK
  6. 6Also: Control Panel → Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced
  7. 7Wireless Adapter Settings → Power Saving Mode → set to "Maximum Performance"
  8. 8This prevents Windows from power-cycling your network adapter

Solution 2: Reset TCP/IP and Network Stack

  1. 1CMD as Admin:
  2. 2netsh winsock reset
  3. 3netsh int ip reset
  4. 4ipconfig /release
  5. 5ipconfig /flushdns
  6. 6ipconfig /renew
  7. 7Restart PC after running all commands
  8. 8If problem persists: set static DNS instead of automatic:
  9. 9Network adapter properties → IPv4 → Use: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Solution 3: Update or Roll Back Network Driver

  1. 1Device Manager → Network adapters → your adapter
  2. 2Right-click → Update driver → "Search automatically"
  3. 3If already latest: try rolling back:
  4. 4Properties → Driver tab → "Roll Back Driver" (if available)
  5. 5For Intel WiFi: download latest driver from intel.com/drivers
  6. 6For Realtek: download from realtek.com or your PC manufacturer
  7. 7Uninstall current driver → install fresh downloaded driver
  8. 8Also check router: update router firmware from manufacturer's website
