Main Troubleshooting Guide

How to Fix Windows Boot Loop

Complete symptoms, causes, and step-by-step solutions

Symptoms

You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:

  • Pressing F2/F12/Del at startup doesn't open BIOS
  • PC boots too fast to enter BIOS setup
  • Boot device menu (F12) not appearing
  • PC goes straight to Windows without showing BIOS screen
  • Can't change boot order to boot from USB
  • Fast Boot enabled and now can't access BIOS at all

Common Causes

  • Fast Boot / Ultra Fast Boot enabled in BIOS
  • Windows Fast Startup prevents BIOS key detection
  • Using wrong key for BIOS entry (varies by manufacturer)
  • USB keyboard not initializing fast enough for BIOS
  • Secure Boot or UEFI settings hiding legacy boot options
  • Monitor not waking fast enough to see BIOS prompt

Solutions

Solution 1: Access BIOS Through Windows

  1. 1If you can't press the key fast enough:
  2. 2Settings → System → Recovery → "Advanced startup" → Restart now
  3. 3Choose Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings → Restart
  4. 4This will boot directly into BIOS/UEFI setup
  5. 5Alternative: hold Shift while clicking Restart in Start menu
  6. 6This also opens the Advanced Startup menu

Solution 2: Correct BIOS Keys by Manufacturer

  1. 1Different manufacturers use different keys:
  2. 2Dell: F2 (setup) or F12 (boot menu)
  3. 3HP: F10 (setup) or F9 (boot menu) or Esc (startup menu)
  4. 4Lenovo: F1 or F2 (setup) or F12 (boot menu) or Novo button
  5. 5ASUS: F2 or Del (setup) or F8 (boot menu)
  6. 6Acer: F2 (setup) or F12 (boot menu)
  7. 7MSI: Del (setup) or F11 (boot menu)
  8. 8Press the key REPEATEDLY as soon as you power on — don't hold it

Solution 3: Disable Fast Boot

  1. 1Fast Boot prevents keyboard input at startup:
  2. 2First: disable Windows Fast Startup:
  3. 3Control Panel → Power Options → "Choose what the power buttons do"
  4. 4Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
  5. 5Uncheck "Turn on fast startup" → Save changes
  6. 6Then in BIOS (access via Windows method above):
  7. 7Look for Fast Boot / Ultra Fast Boot → set to Disabled
  8. 8Save and exit — you should now see the BIOS screen and be able to press keys
