Complete symptoms, causes, and step-by-step solutions

Symptoms

You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:

  • Teams opens to a blank white or blue screen
  • Teams stuck on the loading spinner and never opens
  • Login loop — Teams keeps asking to sign in repeatedly
  • Video calls dropping or audio cutting out mid-meeting
  • Screen sharing shows black screen to other participants
  • Teams notifications not appearing
  • "Something went wrong" error on launch

Common Causes

  • Corrupted Teams cache or credential data
  • Outdated Teams version with known bugs
  • Conflicting VPN or proxy settings interfering with Teams connectivity
  • GPU driver issues causing blank screen or screen share failures
  • Windows audio device configuration conflicts
  • Firewall or antivirus blocking Teams network access
  • Multiple Teams installations (old classic + new Teams) conflicting

Solutions

Solution 1: Clear Teams Cache

  1. 1Close Teams completely — right-click the system tray icon and choose Quit
  2. 2Open Task Manager and end any remaining Teams processes
  3. 3Press Win+R and type: %AppData%\Microsoft\Teams
  4. 4Delete these folders: Cache, blob_storage, databases, GPUCache, IndexedDB, Local Storage, tmp
  5. 5For new Teams: go to %LocalAppData%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
  6. 6Delete the contents of that folder
  7. 7Restart Teams — it will rebuild the cache on launch

Solution 2: Fix Teams Login Loop

  1. 1Open Windows Settings → Accounts → Access work or school
  2. 2If your account is listed, try disconnecting and reconnecting it
  3. 3Open Credential Manager (search in Start menu)
  4. 4Go to Windows Credentials tab
  5. 5Remove any entries containing "teams" or "microsoft"
  6. 6Restart Teams and sign in fresh

Solution 3: Repair or Reset Teams

  1. 1Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps
  2. 2Find Microsoft Teams and click Advanced options
  3. 3Click "Repair" first — this preserves your data
  4. 4If Repair doesn't work, click "Reset"
  5. 5If using the classic Teams: uninstall it and install the new Teams from Microsoft Store
  6. 6The new Teams app uses less memory and is more stable

Solution 4: Fix Teams Audio and Video Issues

  1. 1In Teams → Settings → Devices, check that the correct microphone and speakers are selected
  2. 2Test audio using the "Make a test call" button
  3. 3If screen sharing shows black: go to Settings → General and disable GPU hardware acceleration
  4. 4For audio echo: enable "Noise suppression" in audio settings
  5. 5If calls drop: check VPN settings — some VPNs don't support real-time media well
  6. 6Try: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone/Camera → ensure Teams has access
