Solutions

Solution 1: Configure Microphone and Audio Settings

  1. 1Ensure correct microphone is selected:
  2. 2Settings → System → Sound → Input
  3. 3Select your primary microphone
  4. 4Test it: speak and watch the input level meter
  5. 5Level should reach 50-80% during normal speech
  6. 6If too low: click on your microphone → Input volume → increase
  7. 7In Voice Access settings:
  8. 8Click the microphone icon in Voice Access toolbar
  9. 9Select the correct microphone
  10. 10Disable audio enhancements that may interfere:
  11. 11Settings → System → Sound → your microphone → Properties
  12. 12Disable audio enhancements

Solution 2: Install Language Pack and Model

  1. 1Voice Access requires a speech language pack:
  2. 2Settings → Time & language → Speech
  3. 3Check "Speech language" is set to your language
  4. 4Click "Add a language" if needed
  5. 5Download the speech recognition model:
  6. 6Voice Access should auto-download on first use
  7. 7If it didnt: toggle Voice Access OFF and ON again
  8. 8Settings → Accessibility → Speech → Voice Access
  9. 9Toggle OFF → wait 10 seconds → toggle ON
  10. 10Ensure internet connection for model download
  11. 11The model is several hundred MB
  12. 12For English: ensure "English (United States)" is installed
  13. 13Voice Access works best with US English currently

Solution 3: Fix Recognition and Command Issues

  1. 1If Voice Access hears you but doesnt execute commands:
  2. 2Ensure youre using exact command phrases:
  3. 3"Click [button name]" — for clicking UI elements
  4. 4"Show numbers" — to overlay numbers on clickable items
  5. 5"[number]" — to click the numbered element
  6. 6"Go to sleep" / "Wake up" — pause/resume
  7. 7Speak clearly and at moderate pace
  8. 8Reduce background noise — close windows, fans, etc.
  9. 9For persistent recognition issues:
  10. 10Train speech recognition:
  11. 11Control Panel → Speech Recognition → Train your computer
  12. 12This improves recognition accuracy for your voice
