You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:
- •Delivery Optimization using high bandwidth in background
- •DOSvc (Delivery Optimization service) high network or CPU usage
- •Large cache folder consuming disk space
- •Updates downloading slowly because DO is misconfigured
- •Concerned about PC sharing updates with other PCs on internet
- •Metered connection being used for update delivery
Common Causes
- ⚠Delivery Optimization set to share with internet PCs (default in some editions)
- ⚠DO cache not being cleaned up
- ⚠Background download priority too high
- ⚠DO not respecting metered connection settings

Solutions
Solution 1: Configure Delivery Optimization
- 1Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Delivery Optimization
- 2Toggle "Allow downloads from other PCs":
- 3OFF: only download from Microsoft servers
- 4ON + "Devices on my local network": share only within your LAN (fastest, safe)
- 5Avoid "Devices on the internet and my local network" for privacy
- 6Click "Advanced options" to set bandwidth limits
Solution 2: Limit Bandwidth Usage
- 1Settings → Delivery Optimization → Advanced options:
- 2Set download bandwidth limit (percentage or absolute)
- 3Set upload bandwidth limit
- 4Set monthly upload limit
- 5For metered connections: Settings → Network → your connection → Metered connection ON
- 6This prevents DO from downloading on that connection
Solution 3: Clear DO Cache
- 1Settings → System → Storage → Temporary files
- 2Check "Delivery Optimization Files" → Remove files
- 3Or CMD as Administrator:
- 4Delete-DeliveryOptimizationCache (PowerShell)
- 5Or: net stop dosvc && del /q /f C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DeliveryOptimization\*
- 6net start dosvc
- 7Cache will rebuild as needed for future updates
