You might be experiencing this problem if you notice:

Common Causes

  • âš F8 boot menu disabled in modern Windows (UEFI fast boot)

Solutions

Solution 1: Enter Safe Mode from Settings

  1. 1Go to Settings > System > Recovery
  2. 2Under "Advanced startup", click "Restart now"
  3. 3PC will restart to a blue options screen
  4. 4Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings
  5. 5Click Restart
  6. 6Press 4 for Safe Mode or 5 for Safe Mode with Networking

Solution 2: Enter Safe Mode from Login Screen

  1. 1On the login screen, hold Shift and click Power > Restart
  2. 2This works even if you can't log in
  3. 3Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart
  4. 4Press 4 or 5 for Safe Mode
  5. 5If you can't reach login screen: power off the PC 3 times during boot
  6. 6This triggers Automatic Repair > Advanced options

Solution 3: Enable F8 Boot Menu (Legacy)

  1. 1Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  2. 2Run: bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
  3. 3Restart and press F8 repeatedly during boot
  4. 4You should see the classic Advanced Boot Options menu
  5. 5To revert later: bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard
